She makes Georgiana come alive, infusing her words and actions with fiery intensity, refusing to play the victim despite the circumstances of her character. Her life became an act of (unconscious) revolutionary protest, and "The Duchess" is a marvelous, enlightening bit of history as well as a fascinating portrait of a woman whose personality and ideas were well ahead of their time.
